The 1889 Foundation’s roots run deep in the Johnstown region, dating back decades. Initially established in 1993 as the Conemaugh Health Foundation, it served as the philanthropic arm of the Conemaugh Health System hospitals. In 2015, after Conemaugh Health System transitioned to a for-profit entity, the foundation embraced a new chapter as an independent nonprofit organization, reemerging as the 1889 Foundation. Today, the foundation stands as a pillar of philanthropy, dedicated to improving the health and well-being of the communities it serves.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Sue Mann, whose visionary leadership and unwavering dedication have elevated the 1889 Foundation’s mission and its impact.
